Vij is a trombonist and educator active in both the jazz and pop music scenes. After completing a jazz master’s degree and fellowship at the Guildhall School of Music, he began performing regularly with his own projects, including The Brass Funkeys, Hench Hog, and The London Garage Orchestra. He also holds a residency upstairs at Ronnie Scott’s. Additionally, Vij has performed with other artists, including Yolanda Brown and The Grand Union Orchestra. In the pop music scene, he has worked with acts like All Saints, Shed 7, and Raleigh Ritchie.
In addition to performing, Vij is committed to music education. After completing a PGCE in secondary music, he began working in various areas of youth and community education. He has led workshops for organisations such as The Barbican Centre, The University of Cambridge, and London Music Masters. Currently, Vij runs the music program at the Cambridge School for Visual and Performing Arts and is the education program manager at the Cambridge Jazz Festival. He has also recently composed for Rock School’s new pop brass curriculum and sits on the board at the Independent Society for Musicians.
