16:00 – 19:00 on Saturday 13 June & Saturday 20 June, followed by an evening performance on Tuesday 23 June, all at Band on the Wall, Manchester, M4 5JZ
Our NYJO (National Youth Jazz Orchestra) Under 18s Manchester Collective is for young people aged 13 – 18 who are interested in exploring the world of jazz, experimenting with improvisation, and experiencing playing live music with others.
You should be able to play an instrument (including voice) to a Grade 3+ level and be interested in playing as part of a group, but you do not need to have been in a music ensemble before.
The Collective meet regularly across the year, working towards exciting performance events and final outcomes.
The Collective is run by two of our brilliant Emerging Professional (18 – 25 year-old) musicians. Across two Saturday sessions in June, you will dive deeper into the worlds of improvisation, building your core jazz skills and knowledge together.
Our June sessions will culminate in a performance in Band on the Wall’s main space for family & friends as part of One Education Music’s Jazz Showcase. We also have pizza breaks halfway through each session…
Fees to take part in the sessions are:
1. Free if you are in receipt of Pupil Premium/Free School Meals/from a low-income family in receipt of any form of benefit.
2. £20 per session for all other young people (there are no fees for participating in the performance day).
Please don’t let cost be a barrier to you coming – we will do our best to reduce the cost for anyone who needs it so please just get in touch.
To take part in these summer sessions, please fill in the registration form by no later than Sunday 7 June.
If you have any questions relating to the project, feel free to drop us a message at [email protected] and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
