Tony Kofi & NYJO Present: The Thelonious Monk Orchestra at Town Hall

British saxophone royalty Tony Kofi assembles a hand-picked ensemble of the UK’s finest young cats to recreate Thelonious Monk’s seminal 1959 ‘At Town Hall’.
Monk’s contribution to the music cannot be overstated. Recorded and released in 1959, his large ensemble performance at The Town Hall in NYC was a landmark point in jazz history as it brought bebop out of the underground and into the spotlight for the very first time.
Directed by Tony Kofi, expect a fierce display by the National Youth Jazz Orchestra in celebrating this powerful and iconic work and witness the next generation of emerging jazz talent taking the music forward.
