Celebrate the 100th anniversary of Miles Davis’ birth with a new project from NYJO (National Youth Jazz Orchestra).
NYJO’s Emerging Professional Musicians honour this moment with a special nine-piece band to bring to life the highly influential 1957 album Birth of the Cool, mirroring Miles Davis’ original nonet configuration. Alongside this, there will be performances of new arrangements of his iconic repertoire by bandleader and lead trumpet, NYJO’s own Tom Stringer.
Band leader Tom says:
‘This project is a really exciting opportunity to honour the legacy and music of one of the most important figures in Jazz still to this day. Miles Davis was a pioneer and a stronghand in developing foundations that Jazz across the globe still stands on.’
NYJO exists to empower and inspire young people across the UK through jazz, providing opportunities for young musicians aged 18-25 to experiment creatively and develop the skills needed for a successful career.
