NYJO Emerging Professional saxophonist Asha Parkinson and her quartet are visiting the Albemarle Music Centre in the next installment of NYJO’s Widening Access project in Hull & Humberside. A collaboration with Hull Jazz Festival, Hull Music Service, and East Riding Music Hub, Meeting Points brings exciting young musicians from across the UK to venues across the Humberside region to carry out a workshop for local young people, followed by a headline gig for participants and the public.
As the project progresses, roles are being increasingly created for young people to lead aspects of the programme and soon start inhabiting venues themselves. Combining direct interaction with emerging artists with inspirational live performances by the same musicians, the idea is to create a sense of a young person-led scene for the musicians coming through services to feel excited by, and ownership over.
The free workshop will run from 5-7pm, followed by a gig at 7:30pm – free for workshop participants, or £6.
