Free in-person workshops in schools

Our experienced NYJO Under 18s MDs – Winston Clifford and Olivia Murphy – will lead workshops which explore a range of skills associated with GCSE and A-Level music and ensemble playing, using group composition techniques to offer a taste of the nurturing, supportive way in which NYJO Under 18s stretch themselves, have fun, and become confident and creative players. These workshops will be a taste of what it’s like to play in the NYJO Under 18s programme.

We will be offering taster workshops to schools in who have a group of young musicians (school band, orchestra or GCSE/A-Level music group) who would like to experience a taste of NYJO Under 18s.

To book a taster session for your school, please complete our short online application form.

About NYJO

NYJO exists to empower young jazz musicians and inspire audiences across the UK, through engaging participation projects and impactful live performances. Founded in 1965, NYJO has grown from a single jazz orchestra to a multifaceted organisation that is committed to supporting and developing musicians of all styles and standards. Whether you want to become the next emerging artist or simply play for fun – we’re here for it.

The NYJO Learning programme nurtures young musicians through high-quality workshops, courses and performance opportunities. We value access, inclusivity and progress at all levels and believe in the power of musical participation as a tool for personal growth. We run weekly workshops at our home at Woolwich Works, an arts venue in South East London, and work around the country with Music Services, Hubs, and Schools to widen access to music education opportunities across the UK.
