Jazz Day: Cardiff

Join us on 27 February 2024 at Cardiff University to learn from and play alongside amazing young jazz musicians. If you are studying music at GCSE, A level, BTEC, or play in a band or ensemble, this day will help you to use jazz & improvisation in your music.

You will have the opportunity to play together with some of NYJO’s brilliant Emerging Professional musicians. They will start the day with a workshop, helping you to explore new jazz concepts and experiment with your own creativity. Following this, you will have a workshop with renowned jazz musician and educator Huw Warren. Head of Jazz Ensembles at Cardiff University, Huw has achieved an international reputation for innovative and eclectic music making over a thirty year career.

The day will finish with a jam session led by our NYJO Emerging Professional musicians – bringing together everything that you have learnt across the day, you will have the chance to play, create, and explore through free improvisation!

 

  • 1100-1230: Workshop with NYJO musicians
  • 1230-1315: Lunch
  • 1315-1430: Workshop with Huw Warren
  • 1430-1500: Jam Session with NYJO musicians
