For the next of NYJO’s Industry Sessions, we will be joined by Fred Bolza, founder of jazz record label New Soil and ex-VP of Strategy for Sony Music. In this session, Fred will discuss and answer your questions on when and how to release your music, what does the current jazz landscape look like, and how to decide whether to release with a label or independently. This is your opportunity to “ask all the things you wanted to know but didn’t know who to ask.”
This session is open to all 18-25-year-old musicians interested in learning more about releasing music: sign up at the link below.
About Fred:
After 20 years in the music industry with a career working for the likes of Sony Music and PRS, in 2020, Fred decided to launch a new label, New Soil whose approach “aim(s) to provide the materials needed to build a healthy foundation for you and your music – our roots are in jazz but our branches extend far beyond.” Since then, the label has seen successful releases with Theon Cross, Ill Considered, corto.alto, Balimaya Project, Oscar Jerome, and have forged partnerships with Church of Sound, Jazz re:reshed, Total Refreshment Centre, Bridge The Gap, Women in Jazz and Mushroom Half Hour in South Africa.
