NYJO will be bringing music to the Sloane Square bandstand for three days of this year’s Chelsea Arts Festival. Catch our different programmes over the Friday (19 September), Saturday (20th) and Sunday (21st). Here is what you can expect:
Friday, 19 September (6pm-7pm) – NYJO alum, composer and bandleader George Garford will be leading his quintet Ideasthesia with Daniel Kemshell on guitar, Olly Chalk on piano, Huw V Williams on the double bass, Josh Walker-Martin on drums (and George on alto sax). Come along for an exciting set of contemporary jazz and improvisation.
Saturday, 20 September (1pm-2pm / 4pm-5pm) – NYJO alum and Leeds jazz and experimental scene star Fergus Quill welcomes NYJO Emerging Professional musicians into the ranks of his acclaimed Ferg’s Imaginary Big Band. An ode to “the long history of weird and excellent music churned out by the cultural Northern Powerhouse.”
Sunday, 21 September (from 1pm) – NYJO’s New Orleans-inspired second line brass extravaganza will begin their procession of West London’s charming streets at the Sloane Square bandstand, before roaming around playing new arrangements of standards and contemporary jazz.
