After selling out the Village Underground back in 2019, Steam Down are back this April 2026 to perform a Big Band set with the help of our talented NYJO Emerging Professionals as part of the iconic Brick Lane Jazz Festival.
More than just a band, Steam Down are a community, having a fundamental role within London’s flourishing live jazz scene. Famed for their SD Weekly sessions that began in Deptford, the collective invite a revolving roster of guest soloists to collaborate with their resident musicians, showcasing an approach to jazz that is welcoming and expansive. Known for their spontaneous performances and ability to merge jazz with Afrobeat, grime, and soul, Steam Down has built a loyal following. Their unique sound and infectious energy make them a must-see live act.
In their own words, Steam Down say:
“There’s something deeply nostalgic about this one – in April 2019 we stood on this same stage presenting The Steam Down Orchestra, and exactly seven years later we’re returning to bring you a very special big band performance with NYJO bringing the story forward while honouring where it all began.”
